Ahoj Bratislava!

Bratislava, capital of Slovakia is another twin city on our way. The location of the city totally fits to our project: Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries. In addition to that with only 55 km to the Austrian capital Vienna, they are the closest capitals in Europe and also twin cities with many corporation projects.
We were welcomed very warmly by Katarina and the other members of the cyclist movement Cyklo Kuchyňa. She organized for us an iron curtain tour by bike through the borders of Bratislava. Our guide Juro from Authentic Slovakia showed us the borderland of Bratislava. He stressed that it could happen that people were shot while trying to cross the border to Austria.
In the afternoon we discovered the suburb of the town, which is the biggest so-called concrete housing area in Europe. We also cycled to the Bridge of Freedom (local people just call it Chuck Norris Bridge) which connects Austria to Slovakia. On the way stands a memorial in remembrance of 400 people shot by the border patrols while trying to cross the river during the Cold War period.
