Inner-German border: Border Museum Schifflersgrund

On 1st of August our trip to the East started. From the French/German border we passed Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse to reach the former inner-German border next to Bad Sooden-Allendorf (West) and Asbach-Sickenberg (East) where there is nowadays the Border Museum Schifflersgrund. Thanks to a big collection of audio and video documents, warning signs, military vehicles from both sides of the iron curtain and former border installations we could get an impression how massive the border had influenced the peoples live around the inner-German border.

The visit created the awareness that we can be happy that the period of the divided Germany/Europe has ended 25 years ago. We all have been born around this transition period. We can’t and don’t want to imagine how our lives would be like if this huge border would still exist.
